We are running Linux off an ARM processor driving the Mimo (760-C-OF) display using X11. We are gradually improving the boot time but still have a delay between turning the power on and the earliest time we can display something using X. Our thought was that it would be good if the Mimo firmware could display an image during this period to give the machine operator some confidence that things were happening.
How that might be done I don't know. I wasn't thinking that this would be custom firmware but rather a generic mechanism that could be used by anyone. For example some onboard flash memory that could be programmed through the USB port.

When systems are booting, BIOS does not recognize USB and will not display the setup settings. Since the UM-760C-OF is USB only, that is the reason for the delay. It isn't until Windows takes over that the screen is recognized and is responsive. HDMI is recognized and will display all of the bootup settings. Our UM-760CH-OF is an HDMI unit that gets power/touch through USB while getting display through HDMI.
There is no way to cut the boot time, but we can show something upon boot. We have a few examples on Youtube that we can show you if needed, but it certainly can be done.
